We are committed to the application of responsible construction practices and materials that promote efficiency, value and environmental integrity in every home we build.
Construction practices
We are an industry leader in pursuing alternative building materials that improve affordability and performance of our homes while also making our homes more energy efficient. For example, Centex Homes:
- Is one of the major users of finger joint studs in North America, a practice that reduces use of virgin wood.
- Uses OSB composite sheathing and underlayment as a substitute for plywood in more than 90 percent of its markets.
- Uses trusses extensively in our home building (a practice recommended by preservation groups).
- Is actively replacing solid wood products on the exterior of its homes with a variety of non-wood products and composites.
- Is building more than 90 percent of its homes with metal or fiberglass exterior doors.
- Primarily uses steel and vinyl windows in its homes.
- Is using engineered wood I-joists, laminated veneer lumber and parallam beams to replace solid wood joists and beams in its homes.
Our homes have also been recognized by federal and state governments, state and local utilities and the National Association of Home Builders for their energy efficiency.
Land and habitat preservation
Centex Homes leads the home building industry in land conservation efforts. The Centex Homes Land Legacy Fund helps finance land and water preservation projects across the United States through an initiative with The Conservation Fund, ranked as one of the nation's best charities.
Centex Homes' contributions to land conservation efforts since 1999 total more than $5 million, making the company the industry's clear leader in this important effort for the environment.
