Job Title: Entry Level Purchasing Agent - PA1

Being a purchasing agent is similar to being a stockbroker. Both buy and sell commodities on a daily basis. As a purchasing agent at Centex Homes, your commodities are the parts and pieces required to build a house. Like the stock market, the price of your commodities will fluctuate depending on the supply and demand of that particular market. For example, lumber prices tend to spike in the summer and level off in the winter, so a purchasing agent needs to develop ways to compensate for the change in price.

It is the purchasing agent's responsibility to find and implement the best solutions on behalf of the company. Ultimately, the solutions implemented usually carry a face value that is always justified in terms of dollars. The company's mission is "to build quality homes and neighborhoods that exceed the expectations that we have established with our customers" and to be profitable doing it. A purchasing agent dictates the quality, efficiency and profitability of a division.
